Linda Babiak received her first singing lessons from Ruth Grünhagen. In 2009 she started her music studies in the class of Prof. Michaela Krämer at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Düsseldorf.
The West German Broadcasting (WDR) accompanied Linda’s qualifying exam at the Conservatory, and since then, has broadcasted episodes about her singing career in the TV-show “Lokalzeit Düsseldorf.”
During her studies she focused on both conventional opera literature and the music of the 20s and 30s. She took lessons in popular singing with Lebanese Jazz singer Rabih Lahoud and is a founding member of the vocal quartet “Die Tonjuwelen.”
Initiated through the concert series “Entartete Musik‘ Willkommen in Deutschland – ein Gedenkkonzert” (released on CD and DVD in 2015) in the concert hall Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Linda Babiak discovered the music of Kurt Weill. She performed his songs amongst others with Campino, the leadsinger of the punk band “Die Toten Hosen.” She finished her Master of Music with the concert “Kurt Weill – Von Dessau zum Broadway,” which received the highest grades.
In addition to her studies, Linda obtains technical guidance from Prof. Reinhard Becker and Julie Klos. She also benefits from master classes with Grace Bumbry, Emma Kirkby, Gerd Uecker and Balázs Kovalik.
In 2010, Linda reached the finals at the “Bundeswettbewerb Gesang,” (a German singer competition in Berlin) in the category “Juniors” and again in 2016 for “Seniors”. Furthermore, she was a recipient of the YEHUDI MENUHIN Live Music Now scholarship.
Outside the conservatory, Linda’s first appearance was in 2012 as the awardee of the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg with the debut role of Barbarina (“Die Hochzeit des Figaro,” Director: Marco Arturo Marelli & Conductor: Michael Helmrath). In 2014 this well-respected competition awarded her again (Opera-gala conducted by Kevin McCutcheon) and in 2016 she returned for a performance at the “Jazz Fetz,” a Jazz-session with “Big Brass Neuruppin.”
Linda Babiak has also been invited to sing as a guest at the Deutschen Oper am Rhein (Taumännchen, Papagena) and the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen. There she called attention to herself as Kitti in the debut performance of “Konrad oder das Kind aus der Konservenbüchse.” Since then she has become a regular guest at the opera house and performs in children’s operas (Mission Possible, Oper aus dem Koffer).
Lindas radio debut was in 2015 with the role of Gwendolin; she performed the operetta “Herz über Bord” by Eduard Künneke with the broadcasting orchestra of the WDR in the Kölner Philharmonie. This concert has been broadcasted in the series “Samstagskonzerte” by the WDR4.
More recently, Linda Babiak was able to expand her repertoire with the role of Ännchen (“Der Freischütz“) at the Wernigeröder Schloßfestspielen and the role of Bronislawa (“Der Bettelstudent“) conducted by Prof. Karl-Josef Görgen. She took part in the debut performance “Die Grumbach‘schen Händel” with the Thüringen Philharmonie Gotha.
In March 2017, the CD “Bowie Songs One” was released and features Linda’s impressive versatility as a Pop singer. Produced by Clifford Slapper, the album reinterprets David Bowie’s music in an “unplugged” style for piano and voice.
From 2017 till 2018 Linda could gain some experiences in the Jazz, Country, and Pop scene in Chicago. She performed as a member of the Americana Folk Band “Urban Twang“ and the wedding band “Green 14.“ Besides that she expanded her repertoire with Jazz standards of the “Great American Songbook” as well as french Chansons and gave concerts in the Chicagoland area.
In August 2018 Linda returned to Germany with her husband. Both compose original songs and give house concerts all throughout Europe as the duo “Joe und Linda.”
In addition to her classical background, Linda enjoys singing a wide variety of styles and is passionate towards creative crossover projects. Her other skills include acting, dancing, and show development/production. Aside from her active performance schedule, she does studio/voice over work and offers in-person and online voice lessons/vocal coaching.
